Wilderness First Aid (WFA)
November 8-9, 2025
Silver Falls State Park
The Chemeketan Climbing Section is sponsoring an 18-hour Wilderness First Aid course. The class will run from 8 am to 7:15 pm on Saturday and 8 am to 4:30 pm on Sunday. The course will cover first aid skills and decision-making using realistic emergency medical scenarios as might be encountered on a climbing, hiking or backpacking trip in the Cascades. This will be a fun, intense, hands-on course that includes simulated outdoor scenarios in whatever conditions nature throws at us (Type II fun.). More details about the course will follow as we get closer to the event.
The course training certificate, good for 2 years, is issued by the Emergency Care and Safety Institute in association with the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
Prerequisites: A current adult CPR/AED certification from American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Participants must be at least 14 years old.
COST: $225 for members (please note that taking a WFA course is typically $325+)
Registration: Must be a member to register. Will be a lottery as we did last year given the high demand for the course. However, since we did not offer the course for several years before last year, we had A LOT of interest. We hope to have more available spots this year and it's possible the lottery may not be needed. If you would like to register, please email Mike Pennington (mchuckp@gmail.com) to be placed on the lottery list. The lottery will close after Monday 9/7. Those selected to register will be notified to do so the next day (Tue 8th) and the remainder will be placed on the waiting list. If we have open spots we will look to fill with nonmembers.
Cancellation Policy: There will be a non-refundable $50 cancellation fee for cancellations before October 14, 2024. No refunds are available after October 14, 2024.
