The Chemeketan post-Thanksgiving hike and potluck tradition continues! I wish I could remember when we started this tradition, but it nears 20 years?
Because of icy conditions on the waterfall loop, we opted to hike the Perimeter trail above North Falls. A large group gathered in puffy coats, hats and gloves, warming as they gained elevation through the beautiful forest. Because it's a party, everyone was welcome. We had a cheerful group of 24 hikers!
We were pleased to have Darlene Jordan on her first Chemek hike, Carolyn Chambless on her third, and the following horde of long-time Chemeks: Nancy Rockwell, Rick Cooper, Dave Carter, Bev Hassell, Vicki Kimpton, Lynnette Torgeson, Scott Torgeson, Nanci Chambers, Pat Fuhrman, Zsa DuBois, Elly Collier, Ken Ash, Roz Sirack, Trish Rossitto, Georgienne Young, Bruce Patterson, Blanka Truneckova, Joanne Schiedler, Martin Doerfler, Ann Adamcik, Laurie Walcott and Mary Coleman, leader. Coming to the potluck which followed at the Coleman home in Silverton were Marilyn Johnson, Kathy Patterson, Joan Zuber and Sumon Montri (who missed the hike so she could make dozens of fabulous homemade Thai spring rolls).
It takes a village to lead a hike this big. Thanks to everyone who made sure it all went well. Another truth: Chemeketans are very good cooks and enthusiastic eaters. See you next year!
